Greetings

Welcome to the Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology!

intro Korea is entering the New Normal era which is characterized by low economic growth and high unemployment characteristics, and socioeconomic factors such as low birth rate and population aging are worsening the situation. Also, the Fourth Industrial Revolution is now emerging, which will demolish the boundary between physical and biological areas and accelerate innovative changes not only in the current working system but also in lifestyles.

This rapidly changing economic society and technological progress, and the uncertainty resulting from it could be a crisis. However, it could also be a whole new opportunity for us if we are well prepared to it. In order to transform the crisis into the opportunity, nothing is as important as creative innovation in the science and technology sector. Under the circumstances, the role of the Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology (PACST) which is responsible for advising the President on science and technology related policies is getting more and more critical.

PACST was established in 1989 and has conducted its role of the leading S&T policy think tank for 27 years. Meanwhile, the PACST has contributed a lot to the economic development through mid-and longterm policy direction proposals, system improvement and key policy development activities. It promises to strive to be prepared for the age of uncertainty by making a lot of efforts on its given area. The PACST aims to discover new growth drivers coping with the future social changes, and seek practical solutions by encouraging a constant communication among government ministries, people and R&D performers.

The PACST looks forward to the interest and support of individual citizens and the science and technology community.

Thank you.

Vice Chairperson Lee Myung-chul
